All funds in place for 1.5-GW Al Ajban solar project in Abu Dhabi
Sep 18, 2024 8:34 CESTAbu Dhabi-based renewables developer Masdar, Japan's Sumitomo Corp (TYO:8053) and UAE's BEEAH Group have agreed to partner on the development of waste-to-energy projects in countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The three companies are considering cooperation in a number of projects, including a plant to treat 390,000 tonnes of waste annually and generate 25 MW of power, Masdar said on Monday.
Masdar and BEEAH have already worked on UAE's first commercial-scale waste-to-energy plant which was put into operation in Sharjah last month.
The Sharjah Waste to Energy plant diverts up to 300,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste away from landfills every year and generates 30 MW of energy. The plant was built by the Emirates Waste to Energy Company (EWTE), the UAE’s first waste-to-energy development company which is a joint venture between BEEAH Energy and Masdar.
