The government of Ethiopia and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, better known as Masdar, are looking into the possibility of developing 500 MW of solar projects and related grid infrastructure.

Earlier this month, Masdar entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Ethiopia during prime minister Abiy Ahmed’s visit to the United Arab Emirates. The pact draws plans for cooperation between the two parties.

Finance minister Ahmed Shide was later quoted by local news agency ENA as saying that Masdar will work on 300 MW of solar capacity in the first phase of the project.

According to Masdar’s CEO Mohammed Jamel al-Ramahi, Ethiopia has great potential for solar and wind energy development.
