Abu Dhabi-based renewables major Masdar has signed an agreement with Yemen's Ministry of Energy and Electricity to build a 120-MW solar park in Aden which serves as a temporary capital of the war-torn Arab country.

Under the terms, Masdar will be also in charge of the construction of transmission lines and conversion stations to enable the distribution of the energy generated by the solar park to the city, Yemen's official state news agency Saba said on Wednesday.

The contract was signed in Abu Dhabi by Yemen's energy minister Mana'a Saleh Yaslam, the governor of Aden, Ahmed Lamlas, and Fawaz Al Muharrami, executive director at Masdar Clean Energy.

After the signing, Yaslam emphasized that the planned solar farm will reduce the cost of electricity production during the day and help reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
