Infener to set up 20-MW green hydrogen hub in Germany
Sep 17, 2024 14:59 CESTThe European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to bolster cooperation with Mauritania to boost wind, solar and green hydrogen investment.
At a meeting on Wednesday, Mauritania’s president Mohamed Cheikh El Ghazouani and EIB’s president Werner Hoyer signed a declaration on green hydrogen, the bank said.
“Development of Mauritania’s huge renewable energy potential can both enhance access to affordable energy in our country and allow clean energy to be converted to green hydrogen,” the African country’s president said, adding that by cooperating more closely with EIB, Mauritania will be able to benefit from its technical experience and financial strength.
“With the joint declaration signed today at the European Development Days, Mauritania and the European Union are strengthening their cooperation to accelerate clean energy investment, drive renewable hydrogen innovation and address global energy turmoil,” remarked European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen.
El Ghazouani and Hoyer also discussed support for investment in other sectors in Mauritania, as well as national and regional electrical interconnection.
EIB launched EIB Global, a dedicated development finance branch, in early 2022.
The European Development Days took place on June 21 and 22 in Brussels.
