J-Power signs solar VPPA for Tokyo Metro in Japan
Sep 18, 2024 15:26 CESTSolar panel makers Maxeon Solar Technologies Ltd (NASDAQ:MAXN) and Canadian Solar Japan KK today announced the signing of a deal to settle a patent infringement lawsuit in Tokyo District Court, Japan.
Maxeon Solar filed the lawsuit in September 2020, claiming that the Japanese unit of Canadian Solar Inc (NASDAQ:CSIQ) had infringed its Japan Patent No. JP6642841B2 in relation to the shingled solar cell technology used to deploy SunPower Performance-branded solar panels made by Maxeon. The latter is a Singapore-based spin-off of SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR).
Now, Canadian Solar Japan has agreed to withdraw challenges to Maxeon's patent and to discontinue selling shingled solar cell modules in Japan until the second quarter of 2025 after satisfying certain outstanding 2022 orders.
The announcement did not disclose more details about the settlement as they are confidential.
