Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTRenewables accounted for 38.16% of Guatemala’s power mix in May, according to a monthly report by the country’s National Electric Energy Commission (CNEE).
The May figures are a sharp drop from those seen in April when the renewables share was 59.39%.
During May, generation from coal took over half of the power mix, while renewables were represented by hydropower with a 24.97% share. Wind and solar had a share of 0.89% and 1.41%, respectively. Geothermal energy accounted for 2.03%.
As the sugarcane harvest season in Guatemala comes to an end, electricity generation from bagasse resulted in an 8.75% share, down from 32.56% observed a month earlier.
All sources together, including the interconnection with Mexico, produced 1,094.1 GWh.
