Medserv brings online 2-MW rooftop solar system in Malta

Jul 3, 2014 - Malta-based logistics services provider Medserv said on Wednesday it had put on stream a 2.01-MWp rooftop solar plant on top its warehouses at the Malta Freeport.

The photovoltaic (PV) system comprises 8,000 panels, six inverters and a substation. The plant is seen to offset more than 3,100 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions each year, the developer estimates.

ElectroFix Energy Ltd, a representative of German PV group Conergy, was in charge of the plant’s installation. Other main contractors included Ellul Brothers, which was responsible for the civil works, and Kamoy Engineering, which took care of the steel structures.

Malta has to generate 10% of its energy from renewables by 2020, under the climate plans of the European Union. In 2012 it had achieved a renewable energy share of only 1.4%, according to Eurostat data.
