Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTSwiss-based clean energy company The Meeco Group said on Monday it will collaborate with Madagascar-based Groupe Filatex to install solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity on the island country, starting with three projects.
The partners have signed a cooperation agreement that will see them build, own and operate grid-connected solar parks in Madagascar. During the initial phase of the initiative, Meeco and Groupe Filatex will construct two utility solar parks with capacities of 7 MW and 8 MW, respectively, as well as a hybrid solar-diesel plant. The latter will consist of two separate phases of 500 kWp each.
The projects will be implemented in line with Madagascar’s efforts to provide energy access for 70% of its population by 2030 through the expansion of renewables. At present, just 4% of the country’s rural population has access to electricity.
Meeco noted that the cooperation will mark its entry into the energy market of Madagascar.
