Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has secured a contract to supply its hardware for a 155-MW wind farm expansion project undertaken by New Zealand power generator and retailer Mercury NZ Ltd (NZE:MCY).

The wind turbine manufacturer said on Wednesday it will equip the second stage of its client’s Kaiwera Downs wind farm in New Zealand with 36 units of its V136-4.2 MW machines. The turbines will be delivered in a 4.3 MW operating mode.

Vestas expects to deliver the equipment in the fourth quarter of 2025 and start commissioning in the first quarter of 2026. The Dutch firm will also oversee the wind farm's operations under a 30-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service and maintenance contract.

The first phase of the Kaiwera Downs Wind Farm, with a capacity of 43 MW, was brought online in November last year. The plant uses 10 of Vestas’ V136-4.3MW machines and is expected to have an output that will be enough to supply about 20,000 homes annually.
