Elawan bags Google PPA for 37-MW solar project in Texas
Sep 19, 2024 13:49 CESTAug 31, 2012 - US furniture retailer Merinos Home Furnishing said Thursday it would install a rooftop solar system capable of generating 2.1 million KWh of electricity a year at its stores in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
The solar panels will be installed and owned by MainLine Solar. Under the terms of the deal with Merinos, MainLine Solar will use the West Chester facility’s roof for free for a period of 20 years.
According to Merinos estimates, the system will produce enough electricity to meet the demand of some 200 average households.
The solar panels will be installed on three rooftops in the Merinos complex on a total area of some 160,000 square feet (15,000 sq m). Installation will begin in late-2012 and is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2013.
Moreover, Merinos’s founder Michael Bay has decided to buy the renewable energy credits that the project would generate for a period of ten years. Bay does not plan to use the carbon offsets, but decided to buy them to give an impetus to the project.
