Switzerland-based integrated energy company MET Group has started building a 23-MWp expansion to its Kaba solar farm in eastern Hungary, it said in an announcement on Wednesday.

The Kaba 2 plant will feature over 33,000 solar panels arranged on land spanning nearly 32 hectares (79.1 acres) in the municipality of Kaba. The group said that it will use artificial intelligence technology to track progress during construction.

“The software will analyse visual data captured by drones on all aspects of the construction, including compliance with design execution and timeline to prevent errors, as well as to boost efficiency,” the press release said.

The new project is the work of MET Group’s in-house team, which started the development after the commissioning of the first Kaba park in 2021.

Kaba 2 is MET Group’s seventh solar project. The new plant is scheduled to start commercial operation in the second half of 2024.

The Swiss energy trader operates flexible and green energy assets. As a green energy player, MET Group aims to set up 2 GW of renewables capacity in Europe by 2026.
