Switzerland-based energy company MET Group has completed two solar projects with a total capacity of 96 MWp in Hungary and the plants are already in operation.

MET Gerjen Solar Park with a capacity of 51 MWp is located in southern Hungary and MET Sojtor Solar Park of 45 MWp is in western Hungary. The two facilities with a combined area of 170 hectares (420.1 acres) were commissioned in several phases, MET said on Friday.

The electricity produced by the two solar parks is fed into the grid through newly installed high-voltage substations. The output should be enough to supply about 50,000 households.

The Swiss group is seeking to install 2 GW of renewable capacity by 2026 and has undertaken several steps to achieve this goal. In November 2022, MET formed a joint venture with a unit of Singaporean conglomerate Keppel Corp Ltd (SGX:BN4) to target 1 GW of solar and onshore wind capacity in Western Europe.

In addition, it entered Spain, Italy, Poland and Romania through the acquisition of renewable energy projects.
