Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTMexican building materials producer Cemex SAB de CV (BMV:CEMEXCPO) has taken over local waste management firm Broquers Ambiental as part of its action plan aimed at achieving carbon neutrality.
The price tag of the deal remained undisclosed.
Broquers focuses on the separation, recovery and treatment of urban solid waste generated in the city of Queretaro. All waste processed at its plant will be used as a climate-friendly fuel to power Cemex’ operations in the country.
“With this acquisition, at Cemex, we are firmly committed to the circular economy by integrating our value chain to the production of climate-friendly fuels that we use in cement production,” Ricardo Naya, president of Cemex Mexico, noted in the press release published on Friday.
Cemex claims to currently transforms more than 500,000 tons of waste per year into climate-friendly fuels for its operations, avoiding the emission of more than 730,000 tons of CO2.
