MHI Vestas Offshore Wind today unveiled plans to expand production at its nacelle manufacturing site at the Lindoe port of Odense, Denmark, and lift its workforce by 50.

The offshore wind turbine maker, a joint venture between Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011), will start a recruitment campaign immediately. It is already testing certain schemes aimed at boosting production rates and nacelle quality at the plant. All that comes in response to growing demand for offshore wind turbines globally, the manufacturer explained.

“Offshore wind is in the midst of explosive growth around the world with governments from Taiwan, the US, Japan, and many others declaring an appetite for more offshore wind,” said MHI Vestas’ chief manufacturing officer Robert Borin.

As part of the hiring campaign, MHI Vestas seeks to hire production line workers and engineers. Additionally, the company is undertaking “notable new efficiency measures” inside the factory in line with the planned production hike. Extra factory and storage space will be secured at the site, doubling the manufacturer's physical footprint at Lindoe. Its lease agreement with the port has been extended to eight years, it added.

MHI Vestas has provided employment for more than 500 people in Funen and Odense through its activities at the Danish port, according to the statement.
