Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTSwedish marine energy developer Minesto AB intends to continue with the commissioning of its tidal power array in Vestmannasund, Faroe Islands in mid-October.
Earlier this summer, the company successfully connected the offshore site of its Faroe Islands project to the grid, but failed to commission the first DG100 tidal kite device there because of a mechanical failure in the mooring interface. According to CEO Martin Edlund, the repair will take a few more weeks to complete.
“We have generated valuable flight data and control system data, and we have verified the chain of electricity distribution to shore. The marine operations, with towing and installation, went as planned which is also very good,” Edlund said.
Meanwhile, Minesto has carried out measurements of tidal flow conditions in another part of the Faroe Islands. Together with Faroese electric utility SEV, the company has verified the location for the first large-scale project on the islands, Edlund added.
