Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTSwedish marine energy developer Minesto AB (STO:MINEST) announced today it has successfully launched its maiden Dragon Class tidal power plant, generating first electricity at the project site in Vestmanna, Faroe Islands.
The company has successfully concluded the first week of commissioning including satisfactory electricity production and verification of all core functionality with the new Dragon 4 kite-like unit.
"Every aspect of the project has been fulfilled according to plan and electricity has been successfully generated," said Martin Edlund, CEO of Minesto.
Chief technology officer Bernt Erik Westre, in turn, commented that power production was initiated after completing all required pre-flight function verification on the first tide after installation.
“The Dragon 4 has a lot to offer, and we are now moving into a phase where we will fine-tune the control system settings to maximize the power output," Westre added.
Last month, Minesto said it plans to build 120 MW of tidal arrays in the Faroe Islands.
