Mingyang Group and BASF SE (ETR:BAS) have obtained approval for their joint project to build a 500-MW wind farm off the coast of South China that will supply power to a local site of the German chemicals giant.

With the clearance secured, construction works on the site are set to start sometime this year, while the commissioning is anticipated by the end of 2025, Mingyang Smart Energy announced in a social media post on Monday.

The two companies set up a joint venture for the project in July 2023.

The station, which will be majority owned by the Chinese firm, will be located off the coast of Zhanjiang Municipality in Guangdong province. Once commissioned, most of the site’s output will be supplied to the BASF Zhanjiang Verbund site.

“As a key partner, Mingyang is poised to utilize its leading clean energy equipment and solutions to catalyse greener, more sustainable projects, thereby accelerating the industry's path to eco-friendly and low-carbon development,” the company said.
