Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Mingyang Smart Energy Group Ltd (SHA:601615) has installed its MySE18.X-20MW turbine, touted as world's largest single-capacity offshore wind turbine.

The huge wind mill was installed in Hainan, China on August 28, the company said in a Linkedin post. It added the turbine features modular, lightweight design with flexible power up to 20 MW. With a rotor diameter of 260-292 metres (853-958 ft), the machine can generate 80 million kWh a year at an average wind speed of 8.5 m/s, the manufacturer further said. This is equivalent to the annual consumption of 96,000 residents and enough to offset 66,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, Mingyang calculates.

Mingyang recently announced that OceanX, its 16.6-MW floating wind platform, has launched from Guangzhou, heading towards the Qingzhou IV Offshore Wind Farm in Yangjiang, Gangdong.
