Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Mingyang Smart Energy Group Ltd (SHA:601615) has launched its OceanX floating wind turbine platform, a dual-turbine 'V' shaped structure with a total capacity of 16.6 MW.

Described as the world's largest single-capacity floating wind turbine platform, the floater has been launched in the southern Chinese port city of Guangzhou, the company said in a Linkedin post on Friday.

The facility is designed for deep water applications worldwide and uses single-point mooring suitable for extreme typhoon conditions, the manufacturer says. The floating platform can generate 54 million kWh a year, it estimates.

Mingyang’s turbines were recently selected for an offshore wind project in Germany.

The Chinese manufacturer last year presented a 22-MW offshore wind turbine model.

In 2023, Mingyang ranked first in the offshore wind market, according to data from BloombergNEF (BNEF).
