EC nods to EUR-682m offshore wind support scheme in Belgium
Sep 16, 2024 9:22 CESTMar 21, 2014 - Flemish environmental minister Joke Schauvliege said Wednesday on her website she had rejected the environmental permit application from Electrawinds to expand its biomass power plant Biostoom and to open a new Biosort installation.
Electrawinds failed to convince the minister that the Biosort installation is the best available technology that would meet existing environmental requirements, including emission limits. Moreover, there was not clear enough what type of waste will be processed at Biosort.
In regard to Biostoom, which produces energy from the incineration of household waste, Schauvliege said additional capacity for incineration of household waste would put at risk the balance between the supply of combustible waste and the available incineration capacity in Flanders.
