Elektro Ljubljana banks EUR-50m EIB loan for grid expansion, upgrade
Sep 02, 2024 15:52 CEST(ADPnews) - Mar 23, 2011 - Slovenia's largest mobile operator Mobitel has connected to its network the first base station in the country that entirely runs on renewable energy.
Plans for a further network upgrade in the same direction are already underway, the company said last week, but provided no further details.
The Podkraj base station uses sunlight and wind energy to provide signal in an area where mobile services have not been possible so far due to the inaccessibility of energy infrastructure. The surplus of the energy produced by a photovoltaic generator and a wind generator is stored in batteries and is available when there is no sun or wind, thus providing for uninterrupted operation.
