Moldova plans to hold tenders for 165 MW of large-scale renewable energy projects in April in an effort to support the Eastern European country’s 2030 climate targets and cut its reliance on energy imports.

The Ministry of Energy released a calendar for the solicitation targeting wind and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. According to the schedule, the competition will be launched on April 9 and offers will be accepted over three months.

The bulk of the capacity on offer will be set aside for wind projects, for which the planned allocation is 105 MW. The remaining 60 MW is reserved for solar PV proposals.

Tender documents are due to be released in March. Winners will receive contracts with a term of 15 years.

The Republic of Moldova has set a goal of making renewables account for 27% of the final energy consumption by 2030.
