Morocco has opened a pre-qualification round in a tender for the construction and operation of a 400-MW wind farm complex in the northern part of the North African Kingdom.

The tender for the Nassim Nord project was launched on Friday by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen), which will await bids by June 24. The competition seeks to select a private company to finance, build and operate two wind farms.

The Nassim Nord complex will consist of the 150-MW Koudia Al Baida, a wind project in the northern provinces of Fahs Anjra and M'diq-Fnideq, and the 250-MW Nassim Dar Chaoui that will be located in the Tangier and Tetouan provinces.

The construction of the two wind farms will support Morocco’s goal of making renewables account for at least 52% of its electricity mix by the end of the decade. One of the country's flagship projects backing the target is the massive Noor Midelt, which will combine solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies and will be installed in phases.
