Morocco on Monday kicked off a call for tenders to select engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies for the Noor Atlas solar programme with a capacity of about 260 MW.

The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) is seeking contractors for the construction, operation and maintenance of the solar plants to be located in the south and east of the country, it said in a press release.

The tenders are organised in two separate lots.

The first lot includes five sites -- two plants each of 42 MW in Ain Beni Mathar and Enjil and two stations of 36 MW each in Boudnib and Outat el Haj. The fifth site in Bouanane will host a plant with a capacity of 30 MW.

The sites in the second lot are for two solar plants each of 36 MW in Tan-Tan and Tata.

The bids submitted during the tender will be opened on October 30, 2022.

Morocco currently has about 50 renewable energy projects in operation with a total capacity of 4.1 GW. These include 2.5 GW of solar, 1.32 GW of wind and 360 MW of hydropower.

The North African country aims to achieve a 52% share of renewable energy in its electricity mix by 2030.
