Otovo cutting staff by 46% amid market slowdown
Sep 17, 2024 12:07 CESTIndustrial battery technology company Morrow Batteries ASA has formally inaugurated its new factory for Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries in Norway which will have an annual production capacity of 1 GWh.
Touted as the first gigawatt-scale factory of this type in Europe, the facility in Arendal is expected to produce up to three million battery cells per year. The site, which is the first of four such facilities planned by Morrow in the coastal city, will have about 150 employees.
Test production has already started, with thousands of LFP sample cells already shipped to potential customers for testing and validation. Commercial manufacturing is scheduled to begin at the end of the year.
The inauguration of the factory took place earlier in August at the presence of Norway’s prime minister Jonas Gahr Store.
Morrow was established in 2020 to manufacture and supply batteries for energy storage, niche sectors, and, eventually, automotive applications. It counts among its backers ABB, Siemens and A Energi.
In April, the company sealed a contract to deliver 5.5 GWh of LFP batteries to Nordic Batteries over seven years. The cells will be used to assemble and manufacture battery packs and energy systems customised for maritime and demanding industrial applications.
