Motus Technology AS, a Norwegian supplier of cranes and lifting solutions, has been contracted to provide the platform main crane for the Empire Wind 1 offshore substation.

Equinor ASA’s (OSE:EQNR) 810-MW Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project in the US was recently selected as a provisional winner in New York’s fourth offshore wind solicitation.

Motus Technology said last week it has secured a contract from Seatrium Ltd (SGX:S51), covering engineering, design and construction of the main pedestal crane for the project’s offshore platform. The crane will be delivered to Seatrium’s Singapore yard. The offshore substation platform will be installed about 20 miles (32 km) south of Long Island and will be operated by Equinor.

Motus Technology will provide a self-contained electric-hydraulic offshore crane designed to lift 5 tonnes at 30 metres, which will comply with US statutory laws and regulations for inspection, installation and operation in offshore US federal areas.

“This contract award supports our strategy to increase our supply of high-end cranes to the renewable industry,” said Motus Technology chief executive Kjell Hollen.
