Low-carbon energy infrastructure developer MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES) and French renewables developer and operator Akuo Energy have commissioned a jointly developed 26.7-MW solar plant in Colombia.

The Planeta Rica solar farm will generate more than 48 GWh of electricity annually for the local grid. It has a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) in place with domestic energy company Celsia.

The site is equally owned by MPCES and Akuo. Its construction, which started in August 2021, was executed by Mota-Egil, while the project funding was backed by debt financing provided by Bancolombia.

With the latest commissioning, MPCES’ portfolio of operational capacity in the region houses five assets across four countries. The Planeta Rica site alone is expected to generate about USD 1.6 million (EUR 1.47m) in proportionate revenues for the company in 2024, according to a statement released today.
