Mulk Holdings gets 6-MW solar job in Sierra Leone

Feb 6, 2014 - UAE-based conglomerate Mulk Holdings FZC said earlier this week it had won a multimillion US dollars order to build a 6-MW solar power plant in Sierra Leone.

Under the contract, subsidiary Mulk OGI - Oasis Gulf Investment will be in charge of the engineering, procurement and construction activities for the USD-18-million (EUR 13.3m) project. The plant in Freetown will use photovoltaic (PV) panels sourced through Masdar PV, a unit of Abu Dhabi's renewables developer Masdar.

The solar power station is expected to generate as much power as 3,000 local homes use. It will support Sierra Leone’s goal of sourcing from renewables 25% of its energy by 2015.

Last month, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) said they would provide more than USD 41 million in concessional loans to 35 MW of green energy projects in Ecuador, Sierra Leone, the Maldives, Mauritania, Samoa and Mali. Of the total mount, Sierra Leone’s 6-MW project will receive USD 9 million.
