Norwegian consultancy Multiconsult ASA (FRA:3MC) will act as implementation consultant for the GET FiT programme in Zambia, which aims to deliver up to 200 MW of small- to medium-scale renewable energy projects.

Its responsibilities will include policy and regulatory assistance, tender implementation and construction supervision, the company detailed on Monday. The role will complement the consultancy's job as tender agent for the ongoing 100-MW solar tender in Zambia.

Multiconsult has been selected by German development bank KfW, which manages the programme. It has served as implementation consultant for GET FiT in Uganda for nearly five years and noted that in Uganda the programme has leveraged USD 439 million (EUR 380m) in investment, resulting in 17 renewable energy projects in operation or under construction.

Multiconsult will staff and run the GET FiT Secretariat in Zambia for at least the next three years.

"If successful, GET FiT will not only provide up to 200 MW of new generation from small renewables to the people of Zambia, it will leave a lasting impact on the regulatory framework for all future investments in the power sector," commented Ryan Anderson, team leader for both the tender agent and implementation consultancy in Zambia.
