N. Macedonia's gross electricity grows 4.7% in 2019

SKOPJE (North Macedonia), February 25 (SeeNews) – North Macedonia's gross electricity production increased by 4.7% year-on-year to 5,869,770 MWh in 2019, the national statistical office said on Tuesday.

Net electricity output also increased - to 5,501,317 MWh from 5,282,753 MWh in 2018, Makstat said in a statement.

Thermal power plants contributed the largest share of gross domestic electricity production, generating 3,568,683 MWh, up 23% compared to 2018.

Hydro power plants followed with 1,163,673 MWh, down 35%.

Cogeneration plants (CHP) and auto-production thermal power stations produced 957,279 MWh of electricity in 2018, up 28% on the year.

Electricity generated by wind parks increased by 4.6% to 101,807 MWh, while biogas plants’ output increased by 1.9% to 55,102 MWh. Solar parks produced 23,225 MWh of electricity, up 1.9%.

North Macedonia’s electricity imports increased by an annual 5.0 in 2019 to 2,410,901 MWh, whereas exports increased to 583,019 MWh from 377,423 MWh in the previous year.

Distribution losses fell 1.6% on the year to 979,355 MWh last year.
