Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTNorth Macedonia's gross electricity production rose by an annual 2.8% to 5,498.3 GWh in 2021, the statistical office said on Friday, citing preliminary data.
Net electricity output increased by an annual 3.2% last year - to 5,194.9 GWh, Makstat said in a statement.
Thermal power plants contributed the largest portion of the gross domestic electricity production in 2021, generating 2,294.2 GWh, down 15.9% compared to 2020.
Electricity generated by cogeneration plants and auto-production thermal power stations totalled 1,570 GWh in 2021, up 37.2% on an annual comparison basis.
Hydro power plants generated 1,451.6 GWh of electricity, up 13.7% year-on-year.
Wind parks' output fell 11.6% year-on-year to 103,336 MWh in the year under review, while biogas plants generated 53,818 MWh of electricity, 6.1% lower compared with 2020.
Solar parks produced 25,293 MWh, up 7.5% on the year.
North Macedonia’s electricity imports decreased by an annual 4.3% to 2,836.8 GWh in 2021. Electricity exports came in at 359,103 MWh last year, down 43.8% on the year.
Distribution losses increased 1.4% on the year to 1,040.8 GWh in 2021.
In December alone, North Macedonia's gross electricity production rose by an annual 19.3% to 594,283 MWh.
