Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe Namibian government has signed a land lease agreement that will enable the construction of a 44-MW wind farm in the country’s southern Karas Region.
The pact was signed last week by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) and independent power producer (IPP) Diaz Wind Power, which is a unit of United Africa Group (UAG). The move was confirmed by UAG’s chairperson Martha Namundjebo-Tilahun in a Twitter post on Saturday.
The proposed wind farm will be installed in the harbour town of Luderitz at a cost estimated at NAD 1.5 billion (USD 107.4m/EUR 95.9m), the Namibian reports. Its construction is in line with domestic utility NamPower’s new corporate strategy and business plan that seeks to make the country energy self-sufficient in the next five years. The plan involves adding 150 MW of new NamPower-owned capacity, including renewables, and procuring 70 MW of wind and solar capacity from IPPs by 2023.
