US renewables developer-operator National Grid Renewables has launched construction of its 270-MW Blevins solar project in Falls County, Texas, the company announced on Tuesday.

Construction company and engineer Mortenson has been tasked with building the solar farm on a 2,300-acre (930.8 ha) site. First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) is supplying its Series 6 Plus solar panels for this project.

"Blevins is our third solar project to break ground in the great state of Texas, and our second in Falls County," said Joe Ibrahim, Vice President of Construction and Engineering.

The solar farm will operate under two power purchase agreements (PPAs), as announced by National Grid Renewables in November last year. Japanese conglomerate Fujifilm Holdings Corp (TYO:4901) procured 125 MW from Blevins, with US pharma group Bristol Myers Squibb Co (NYSE:BMY) off-taking the remaining 145 MW.

The Blevins solar farm is scheduled to start commercial operation at the end of 2025.
