French renewable energy company Neoen SA (EPA:NEOEN) has officially opened a 57.4-MW wind farm and a 52-MW/52-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Sweden.

The Paris-based company announced the milestone in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday, saying that the event has given it a great boost to focus on its Swedish projects currently under development and construction.

The Storbrannkullen wind farm is located in the counties of Jamtland and Vasternorrland and is expected to produce electricity that will be equal to the annual power consumption of 30,000 homes. Equipped by 10 Nordex N163 turbines, the plant is hooked to the grid operated by Germany’s E.on.

European packaging company Coveris in 2023 signed a 10-year deal to buy 60% of the output and associated guarantees of origin from the Storbrannkullen park. Another power purchase agreement (PPA) with digital infrastructure firm Equinix covers 25% of the generated electricity, corresponding to 14 MW.

Additionally, Neoen has inaugurated its first big battery in Sweden, the Storen Power Reserve. The lithium-ion facility is situated in the municipality of Ragunda, Jamtland County, and will provide ancillary services to Swedish transmission system operator Svenska Kraftnat.
