ABP presents plan to turn Port of Barrow into renewables hub
Sep 18, 2024 14:41 CESTOil and gas company Neptune Energy, together with Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and Goal7, will study powering energy hubs in the UK North Sea with offshore wind.
The planned integrated energy hubs could include existing oil and gas production assets, carbon storage and hydrogen production facilities.
Neptune said it has filed three applications under the recent Carbon Dioxide Appraisal and Storage Licensing Round and obtaining the licences would enable it to develop hub proposals. The licences are due to be awarded by the North Sea Transition Authority in early 2023.
Under a memorandum of understanding with Ørsted and Goal7, announced on Thursday, the companies will explore the potential to supply power from Ørsted’s Hornsea offshore wind developments to future hubs operated by Neptune. Goal7 will participate with the provision of project management support and technical input.
“The development of integrated energy hubs is an important part of Neptune’s strategy to store more carbon than is emitted from our operations and the use of our sold products by 2030,” said Neptune Energy’s director of new energy, Pierre Girard.
Electrification can reduce emissions from producing fields and extend their life.
The Hornsea projects are four large offshore wind farms being operated, built or developed by Ørsted in the North Sea off the east English coast.
