Finnish refiner and renewable fuels producer Neste Oyj (HEL:NESTE) on Monday announced a strategic collaboration with fuel distributor Q8 to offer its renewable diesel to the Danish market to support the transport sector’s decarbonisation.

On Tuesday, Neste also announced a renewable diesel deal with German state-owned railway operator Deutsche Bahn.

Under the first agreement, Neste MY Renewable Diesel will initially be made available to heavy transport sector operators at nine Q8 stations from April 17.

Helle Dahlgren Skov, retail director at Q8, said the move is in response to increasing demand from business customers for products that can help reduce their climate footprint.

"Neste MY Renewable Diesel use does not require any modifications to existing engines, vehicles or fuel distribution infrastructure,” Christian Pettersson of Neste remarked, adding that Neste’s renewable diesel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% over the life cycle of the fuel when compared to fossil diesel.

Separately, Neste said that Deutsche Bahn is purchasing around 13,300 tonnes (17 million liters) of its renewable diesel this year, which would save around 46,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

According to the announcement, Deutsche Bahn has approved around 1,000 of its vehicles for using HVO-type 100% renewable diesel, and its subsidiary DB Cargo AG its whole fleet of 800 vehicles.

“With our renewables production capacity increasing to 5.5 million tons by the end of 2023 and further to 6.8 million tons by the end of 2026, we are well-equipped to help our customers around the world to make the switch to more sustainable solutions,” said Neste executive Peter Zonneveld.
