Nestle bottling plant in California installs 3.2 MW of wind turbines

Feb 27, 2013 - Swiss-based food and beverage group Nestle SA (VTX:NESN) said Tuesday two wind turbines with a capacity of 1.6 MW each had been installed at its Nestle Waters North America (NWNA) bottling plant in Cabazon, California.

The two General Electric-built turbines are expected to cover 30% of the facility’s power needs. The wind farm will generate some 12.9 million kWh of renewable electricity annually, which is the equivalent needed to power 1,100 average households. The project is also estimated to help offset 7,320 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

The project at the NWNA bottling facility was developed jointly with the Foundation Windpower, which was in charge of installation and will operate and own the wind turbines. NWNA will buy the electricity directly and will receives renewable energy credits from Foundation Windpower.
