Weekly renewables M&A round-up (Sep 9-13)
Sep 13, 2024 17:19 CESTMar 17, 2014 - Netherland can entirely switch to renewable energy by 2030, nonprofit organisation for sustainability Urgenda said in a report on Friday.
The organisation made the calculations using the energy model of local research firm Quintel Intelligence.
According to Urgenda it is feasible and affordable to perform the transition by 2030 having already the necesary technology and skilled workforce. In addition, the change will create a minimum of 150,000 new jobs.
Urgenda further says that a sustainable energy supply could be provided through changing the way we live, travel, eat, use and produce energy.
The transition will require an additional investment of EUR 2 billion (USD 2.8bn) per year in electricity networks. Moreover, an annual EUR 7 billion have to be injected into the production of sustainable electricity and heating.
The 100% renewable energy scenario is seen to reduce energy costs to EUR 58.5 billion in 2030, compared with EUR 61.4 billion if the current course is maintained.
The Netherlands will thus also become less dependent on import of energy.
