New Zealand-based developer Far North Solar Farm (FNSF) has obtained resource consent for the construction of a 41-MWp photovoltaic (PV) park on New Zealand's North Island.

The permit was issued by Rangitikei District Council, FNSF said in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday.

To be installed near the town of Marton, in the Manawatu-Whanganui region of North Island, the solar park will cover 38 ha (93.9 acres) and is expected to generate electricity for 7,800 homes per year.

The Marton solar farm permit brings to five the number of FNSF’s consented PV projects in its home country. One of those, in Pukenui, is already under construction and building works will commence on another project in Edgecumbe later this year.

“The Marton solar farm is the first in our second tranche of developments to receive resource consent and we have three active applications currently in play for several other large sites, including a 420-MWp project in the Mackenzie Basin, with other farm locations soon to also be submitted,” said FNSF director Richard Homewood.
