NextEra 250 MW solar thermal plant gets federal approval

(ADPnews) - Nov 5, 2010 - The US Department of the Interior yesterday approved the 250 MW solar thermal project of local renewable energy generator NextEra Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE).

The Genesis project has an investment volume of USD 1 billion (EUR 7bn). It will be located in California and will use parabolic trough technology. Californian utility PG&E Corporation (NYSE:PCG) will buy its electricity.

NextEra will soon start construction works on the plant, the company said. It should be operative in the third quarter of 2011, according to schedule.

Besides Genesis, this October, the Department of the Interior approved six other large-scale solar power plants.

NextEra is a major producer of wind and solar power in North America.
