Ineos Olefins & Polymers USA, a unit of UK-based petrochemical company Ineos, said today it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with NextEra Energy Resources LLC to get energy from a new 310-MW solar project in Texas.

A subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources will build, own and operate the project, called Ineos Hickerson Solar Farm. The huge installation will be located in Bosque County, north central Texas, and will deliver its whole generation to Ineos O&P USA, covering the net purchased electricity load of all 14 of the business’ manufacturing, fractionation and storage facilities in the US. Scheduled to start construction in the first quarter of 2024 and go online by December 2025, the solar park is expected to generate 730,000 MWh a year.

“INEOS O&P USA seeks to be a bellwether of what the petrochemical community can do to adopt renewable energy among its long-term energy demands, and this is one of many important steps being taken globally to reduce the carbon footprint of all the INEOS businesses,” commented chief executive Mike Nagle.

In early 2022, Ineos also clinched a PPA with Dutch utility Eneco for electricity coming from a 65.5-MW portion of the 487-MW SeaMade offshore wind complex in Belgium.
