Niger opens RfQ for 50-MW solar project

Niger opens RfQ for 50-MW solar project Solar farm. Author: Alan Levine.

The government of Niger has issued a Request for Qualification (RfQ) as part of a tender for the construction of a 50-MW solar park.

The photovoltaic (PV) park is planned to be installed in the Gorou Banda plateau, on the outskirts of Niamey, the country’s capital, the Ministry of Petroleum, Energy and Renewable Energy announced. Its partner in the procurement process will be the International Finance Corp (IFC), which will provide advisory services.

The project will be financed under the Scaling Solar programme, which supports grid-tied solar PV power in emerging markets.

Interested parties will be able to submit proposals by November 22. Pre-qualified bidders will be invited to take part in the next phase of the tender -- a Request for Proposals (RfP). Winners will be tasked with the design, financing, construction and operation of the solar farm under a 25-year contract.

The African nation has set a goal of sourcing 30% of its total power from sustainable sources by 2035.
