EC clears EUR-1.2bn Polish scheme to aid net-zero equipment
Sep 19, 2024 8:42 CESTDanish power cable manufacturer NKT A/S (CPH:NKT) has been contracted by Polish utility Tauron Polska Energia SA (WSE:TPE) to assist in local grid modernisation efforts aimed at allowing the adoption of more renewable power sources in the central European country.
NKT has received an order to deliver 1,300 kilometres (807 mi) of 20- kV cables which will be supplied throughout 2024-2025, the company said in a press statement on Thursday.
The contract signed with the Polish distribution system operator (DSO) will advance the country’s strategy to build an almost new power system with a strong base of renewable energy sources by 2040.
Tauron supplies 51.6 TWh of electricity over an area of 57,000 square kilometres. The company serves 5.8 million customers in Southern Poland
“We are proud to support Poland’s modernisation efforts of their power grids. As they increase their mix of renewable energy and shift towards a smarter and more efficient grid, our power cable solutions play an important role. This is a general trend we are seeing across Europe, which is why we are investing substantially in increasing our medium- and high-voltage power cable capacity to support our customer’s growing demand,” said Carlos Fernandez, executive vice president and head of applications at NKT.
