German wind turbine maker Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) has secured a deal from EDF Renewables South Africa to deliver hardware for two wind projects totalling 295 MW in the country’s Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces.

The subsidiary of EDF Renouveables and Electricite de France (EDF) has ordered 50 units of the N163/5.X machines, to be built on tubular steel towers with a hub height of 118 m (387.1 ft), the German manufacturer said on Tuesday.

The Nordex turbines will be used to equip the Korosun 2 wind farm cluster, which is made up of the Umsobomvu and Hartebeesthoek projects. The capacity will be installed between the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces, with each of the two wind parks planned to use 25 turbines with a combined capacity of 147.5 MW. Infrastructure works have been initiated and the plants should become operational in the first quarter of 2026.

Apart from delivering the machines, Nordex will also take care of the plants’ maintenance and services over a 20-year period.
