German wind turbine maker Nordex SE (ETR:NDX1) said Wednesday it has hooked to the grid the 80-MW Kouga wind farm, located in the southern part of South Africa.

Through its local unit Nordex Energy South Africa (Pty) Ltd, the firm erected 32 units of its N90/2500 turbine in Eastern Cape province’s windy Oysterbay area. They are expected to be able to generate roughly 335 GWh each year, the company calculates.

The equipment was shipped from three different continents and the construction of the plant took approximately two years, Nordex South Africa managing director, Anne Henschel, noted. The company will continue to maintain the facility, as well.

The turnkey contract was awarded to Nordex in the first bid round of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPP) programme. It marks the firm’s second successfully completed wind farm in Eastern Cape, according to the press release.
