Queensland Hydro picks contractors for 2-GW pumped storage project
Sep 18, 2024 6:05 CESTGerman wind turbine maker Nordex (ETR:NDX1) said Thursday it has been contracted to build a 66-MW wind power plant for Acciona Energia in the Aussie state of Western Victoria.
Phase one of the Mount Gellibrand wind farm will use 22 units of AW125/3000 turbines with 87.5-metre (287.1 ft) tubular steel towers, which will be built in Victoria. The machines are specifically designed for sites with medium wind speeds and a low turbulence level, the manufacturer explained.
The wind park near Colac is expected to come online in 2018, according to the press statement. Afterwards, Nordex will service the turbines for an initial period of two years.
This is Nordex’s first order for an Australian project since the acquisition of the Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Acciona Windpower in April 2016. At present, the country has two wind power plants with a combined capacity of 238.5 MW equipped with turbines from the AW1500 platform.
The contract with the local subsidiary of Spanish group Acciona SA (BME:ANA) was awarded in end-2016. It has been included in Nordex’s EUR-3.3-billion (USD 3.5bn) order intake for 2016 (http://renewables.seenews.com/news/nordex-2016-order-intake-short-of-guidance-553877).
