Six gas transmission system operators have awarded a contract for the pre-feasibility study on the Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor, which aims to connect green energy production regions in Northern Europe with the main consumption centres in Central Europe.

The six companies, namely Gasgrid Finland, Estonia’s Elering, Conexus Baltic Grid of Latvia, Amber Grid of Lithuania, Poland’s GAZ-SYSTEM and Germany-based ONTRAS, have selected AFRY Management Consulting Oy as the winner of the tender for this contract.

AFRY’s job will be to analyse the conditions for the development of cross-border hydrogen infrastructure from Finland, through the Baltic countries and Poland to Germany. In addition, it will look into green hydrogen trends in the region.

The study is supposed to be concluded within six months and provide recommendations so that the sponsors could decide on whether to advance the development further.

The Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor was declared a Project of Common Interest (PCI) by the European Commission in November. It is expected to be completed by 2030.
