Nordic Solar A/S is building a 33-MWp solar park on the Danish island of Als that will be supplying electricity to the nation’s only paper mill later this year, the company announced in a statement.

The paper mill operator, Skjern Paper A/S, will be buying the output of the plant under a unique power purchase agreement (PPA) that is the result of a cooperation between Nordic Solar and local utility EWII Group. The contract features optimal risk allocation, Nordic Solar noted.

The solar power facility is begin built in the town of Lysabild with a special focus on biodiversity. Nordic Solar is implementing the project in collaboration with advisory firm Mols Consulting.

The scheme envisages hedgerows encircling the park to shield it from public view, as well as the re-establishment of ponds and the placement of cut tree trunks around the solar panels to the benefit of various insects, fungi and animals, according to the announcement.
