Nordic Yards launches construction of BorWin transformer platform

Sep 16, 2011 - German shipbuilder Nordic Yards said it started today the construction of the offshore transformer platform BorWin at its shipyard near Rostock, northern Germany.

The platform, which is to be erected 125 kilometres (77.67mi) off the German North Sea coast, is to start test operations at the end of 2012.

The order for BorWin has been submitted by Siemens' (ETR:SIE) Energy division in July 2010 as part of the BorWin 2 project for Dutch grid operator Tennet.

BorWin will transfer 800 MW of clean energy into the German power grid, or enough for the supply of a city like Frankfurt am Main with population of 679,664 people, Nordic said.
