Norwegian state-run enterprise Enova SF on Thursday announced NOK 1.12 billion (USD 112m/EUR 107m) in total financing for a number of green hydrogen hub projects and hydrogen-powered ships.

The company, which is owned by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, is providing NOK 669 million in financial support to five green hydrogen production plants along the Norwegian coast, also referred to as hubs, and a further NOK 451.3 million to seven hydrogen and ammonia-powered vessels.

According to Nils Kristian Nakstad, CEO of Enova, the supported green hydrogen hubs will have the combined capacity to supply between 35 and 40 vessels, including the financially-backed ships.

Everfuel and Nel ASA separately confirmed the awards to the projects they are involved in, saying that each will build a 20-MW electrolyser.

At the same time, Enova has awarded NOK 205.6 million to Faerder Tankers Norway AS so it could build two tankers and two car carriers that use ammonia as fuel. Ocean Infinity, in turn, has received NOK 148.6 million to build the first two container vessels that use hydrogen as fuel, while Thor Dahl Bulk AS has won NOK 97 million for a bulk vessel utilising fuel cells.
